Twitter has emerged as the world most leading and most popularly used social networking platform. It is used by individuals all over the globe, from any social status or class. It can be said that in the digital age, one cannot survive without having a Twitter Account.
Twitter has certain striking features such as “Ticks”. In simple terms, ticks are colour-coded verification badges. There are three main types of ticks on Twitter namely; Blue Tick, Golden Tick and Grey Tick.
The Blue Tick verification badge denotes “authentic and verified sources and accounts” They are generally given to prominent accounts such as Journalists, Lawyers, Corporate Companies, Celebrities, Politicians and Government departments.
The new CEO of Twitter Elon Musk has stated that the Blue Tick will now be used by all individuals irrespective of their “high status” or background. The Blue Tick also represents the verified Twitter Blue Accounts. The Twitter blue is available in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and UK.
Twitter Blue subscribers will get access to subscriber-only features– such as Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads and reader mode.
The blue tick has a dual meaning i.e. two different things: either that an account was verified under Twitter’s previous verification criteria (active, notable, and authentic), or that the account has an active subscription to Twitter’s new “Twitter Blue subscription”
Users using the Blue Tick accounts are likely to see lesser number of advertisements.
For a Blue Tick account there is a requirement of the following: there should be a profile photo and a proper display name and the account must be actively used in the last 30 days.
Further,The Account should be at least 90 days old upon subscription to Twitter Blue. The account must have a confirmed and legitimate phone number. There should be no signs of any account which is misleading.
In December 2022, Musk introduced the Golden Tick or Yellow Tick for verification for companies and corporate organisations. Examples include Audi, Xiaomi, Google India. Etc.
The Grey check mark indicates that an account represents a government institution or official, or a multilateral organization. Specifically, eligible government institutions include:
1) National and Local crisis response
2) Public safety
3) Law Enforcement (Police, Rapid Action Force)
4) Regulatory agencies, embassies, consulates and other major national level agencies.
Eligible elected or appointed officials include: heads of state, foreign official spokespeople, top diplomatic leaders, cabinet members at the (national level). Eligible multilateral organizations include institutional accounts, top officials, and official spokespeople.
